The Mature Age Entry Scheme (MAES) is a special university admission pathway in Uganda for individuals who are 25 years or older and do not meet the standard A-Level requirements. It allows adults to gain entry into degree programmes at universities such as Makerere, Gulu, and IUIU by sitting a specially designed entrance examination. OHEC prepares you comprehensively for this examination.

Applicants must be at least 25 years of age by the date of application. No minimum requirement. Age is your qualification — OHEC gives you the knowledge.

The primary universities offering Mature Age Entry in Uganda include Makerere University (for MBChB, BPharm, LLB, and other programmes), Gulu University, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and Bugema University. OHEC also prepares students for Diploma Entry Scheme exams at Busitema University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Gulu University.

The Mature Age Entrance Examination typically covers a General Paper (testing English comprehension, logical reasoning, and current affairs) plus programme-specific science or humanities papers depending on your chosen degree. OHEC's curriculum is exactly aligned to these papers.

A Mature Age Entry certificate is typically valid for a period of two (2) academic years from the year it was issued by the examining university. This means if you pass your entrance examination in 2025, you may apply for university admission using that result through 2026. We recommend applying in the same year of examination to maximise your chances of admission.
